Superfood Herbs and Spices in My Recipes

  • The herbs and spices I use in my recipes not only provide natural flavorings to make food more delicious, they are also an incredible source of antioxidants.

The superstar herbs are:

Basil

  • It is a powerful antioxidant that prevents free radical damage, primary cause of heart disease, cancer, and many other serious health conditions, as well as aging.
  • It is an excellent source of vitamin K, calcium, magnesium and beta carotene, manganese, vitamin C and potassium. Basil has amazing anti-inflammatory properties and extraordinary healing benefits that work for arthritis, allergies, and inflammatory bowel conditions.

Dried Red Peppers

  •  Cayenne, crushed red peppers and paprika stimulate digestive enzymes, and help prevent stomach ulcers. Cayenne pepper also reduces bad cholesterol, triglyceride levels, and decreases the formation of harmful blood clots all of which prevent heart attacks and strokes.
  • It is an effective anti-inflammatory and pain relief remedy for everything from headaches to sore muscles, as well as clearing nasal congestion and boosting immunity.

Oregano

  •  It is among the highest in antioxidants of the dried herbs. Its high levels of antioxidants mean that a half teaspoon of dried oregano has the benefits of a spinach salad or three cups of chopped broccoli.

  • Oregano has the added ability to act as an expectorant, clearing congestion, and can also improve digestion.

Rosmary

  • It contains potent antioxidants and anti-inflammatory agents. The carnosic acid found in rosemary has been shown to reduce stroke risk and shield brain cells from free-radical damage, which can worsen the effects of a stroke.
