Contraindications of aloe vera

Contraindications of aloe vera:

Aloe vera is contraindicated in the following conditions:

1-Allergies:
Avoid using aloe vera if you are allergic to any of its ingredients. Experts suggest avoiding its use even if you are allergic to onion and garlic, because they all belong to same family.

Long term use of aloe vera may cause allergic reaction to the skin. So always use it with care. In case of Allergic reactions, first thing to do is stop using aloe vera and consult dermatologist as soon as possible.

2- Pregnancy:

It is advised not to use aloe vera during pregnancy as it is not safe in pregnancy. It may cause following problems: Aloe vera decreases blood sugar level that can be dangerous for the health of baby and mother. So it is advised not to use Aloe vera in pregnancy. Aloe vera is laxative agent and can deplete electrolytes which are mandatory for both mother and baby. Aloe vera causes uterine contraction that can be dangerous the for baby.

Due to its above mentioned side effects, it is advised; do not use aloe vera internally in pregnancy. External use has no adverse effects on pregnancy. It does not enter in blood circulation when used topically, so declared safe.

3- Beast-feeding:

It is suggested by experts; do not use aloe vera during breast-feeding. You must be thinking why? Answer to this question is still not known. Researches are still being done. Presence of any of its active ingredients in milk is not reported yet. For being on safe side, it is advised not to use aloe vera internally during breast feeding.

4- Abdominal cramps:

It is advised do not use aloe vera in abdominal cramps. As aloe vera works to increase gut motility and helps to cure constipation and slight pain is felt in it. In case of abdominal cramps, aloe vera can make the situation more critical. So avoid using aloe vera in abdominal cramps. And visit your doctor to know about its cause a and possible way out.

5- Intestinal disorders:

Aloe vera latex and its other derivatives can cause intestinal irritation that’s why it is contraindicated in the patients of bowel obstruction (usually occur in elderly patients), ulcerative colitis and appendicitis.

6- prior to surgery:

If you are using aloe vera and have a plan of surgery then stop using aloe vera prior to surgery. Aloe vera is a blood thinner and prevents blood clotting. So do not use aloe vera if you are supposed to get operated in few days, as it may cause blood loss.
